Throw It Away - Alice Di Micele featuring Mimi Fox
Going for Adds 11/17/23
Americana/Folk singer/songwriter Alice Di Micele has opened many of her shows with an a cappella version of jazz singer Abbey Lincoln’s “Throw It Away” since the 90s. She explains, “As a singer/songwriter, I think its a good idea to pay homage to my inspirations. Singing ‘Throw It Away’ grounds me and reminds me that although I strive for originality, my music has been influenced by a long legacy of incredible writers and singers. What better reminder that I am but a small link in a long chain of music, than to sing one of the most beautiful songs I’ve ever heard.”
When Mimi Fox asked her what songs she might want to sing in their duo, this was at the top of the list. Fox’s stunning guitar arrangement highlights the versatility of Di Micele’s multi-octave voice. They have often joked that Alice is jazz singer in a folk singers body and Mimi is a folk singer in a jazz guitarist’s body. Together the two get to explore different sides of themselves and stretch musically. For those not familiar with Mimi Fox, she is a world-class jazz guitarist about whom Guitar Player Magazine has said “Beyond her passion and technical virtuosity, Fox plays with a profundity that only results from a lifetime of commitment and total immersion in one’s art. “
Fox and Di Micele started playing music together in the early 1990’s but went their separate ways after several years – Mimi deep into the jazz world, and Alice into the folk world, only to reconnect 25 years later. Their musical connection and synchronicity is stronger than ever and they have plans to record and perform together into the future. Stay tuned for more.
