Alice Di Micele: A Killer Set Of Cords (Vocal) And A
Passion For Her Mother (Nature)
By Cleveland Jones
New Jersey born, Oregon resettled 30-year-old
Alice Di Micele releases her fifth project titled Naked.
The CD is a combination of studio live and concert
live songs, or in other words, the entire CD was recorded
live. First and foremost on Naked are Di Micele's powerful
voice and her adept and sometimes aggressive acoustic
guitar strumming. On other tracks, Di Micele has tastefully
added jazz guitarist Mimi Fox and Violinist Brian Price.
Born in Elizabeth, New Jersey in 1965,
to a pianist mother and a schoolteacher father, Di
Micele grew up playing the recorder, flute and finally
the guitar. At age 21 she abandonded the state university
of New York and moved to southern Oregon ("I fell in
love with the forest") to pursue a professional career
in music. That was nine years and five releases ago.
To write that Di Micele cares about nature
is a mammouth understatement. She believes that the
ecosystem and wilderness keep people physically and
spiritually alive. In her words, "Nature is God/Goddess.
Nature is everything. If we destroy it, we destroy
ourselves." Nature, in her rationalization, extends
to the belief that racism, sexism, homophobia, anti-semitism,
etc., can be overcome through a healthy respect for
nature and the power of love. Naive? Perhaps, but sincere.
So, we have dual passions--nature and music--the two
mixing together. Herein lies the rise and flow of Alice
Di Micele.
Nature aside, Di Micele remains regionally
popular and continually tours, primarily in the Pacific
Northwest. Plant a tree and tell her we sent you.
